Formalities
As a EU citizen you don’t need a visa anymore. But although certain things are quickly becoming simpler, the registration obligation still existed in 2019. According to the Uzbek law, you need to be registered for every stay in the country that is longer than three days.  But in order to avoid unnecessary discussions with the authorities, every hotel will give you a tiny (and easy to misplace) paper confirming that you stayed with them, be it even for only one night. It actually is a paper that all hotel employees are used to cutting ritually with a rule, without scissors, reminding of older eras. You are supposed to keep these small registration slips until you leave the country. It seems that certain borders are more difficult than others, so be especially careful if you need to use land crossing points. Btw,in southern Uzbekistan there is a specific land crossing point to Afghanistan, in case you feel lucky or need to impress your friends (if you come back alive). Of course that specific stamp on your passeport will seriously reduce your future travel opportunities but hey, how many people do you know who went to Afghanistan AND came back alive?

Money
The currency is called som. And although many zeros have been cut because of inflation, you may need an extra bag to carry the money around. Be prepared for huge piles of cash  and to feel RICH (you probably will be while in Uzbekistan..) but  keep your exchange slip if you you want  to exchange back your unused som as you go (50,000 som were just 5USD in 2019).
There is no black market (anymore) for exchanging money in Uzbekistan. Change money in the airport and spare the fuss and your time for sightseeing.

Telephone
Do not even think of using your mobile in Uzbekistan. Your provider will inform you about the exorbitant price of your calls, but it is better to turn all mobile data off before you get off the airplane. And beware: just one Gb of data will cost you 950 euros+VAT in Belgium!  The best solution is to buy one SIM card directly as you get in the baggage claim area. For around 10USD you will have 12Gb of data, your own local number and free calls and texting inside Uzbekistan. Don’t expect perfect coverage, especially in places as the Aral sea. The good news is, receiving SMS in Uzbekistan will cost you nothing (if you have a Belgian provider), so while your friends text you, you can send smoke signals to them (free as well...).

Electricity
No adapter needed for Belgium. 220V. Check here for more.

Post
It  has not arrived yet, 60 days after. Something is telling me it never will. Have fun using the Uzbeki snail-mail!

Food

Not bad. A mixture of oriental cuisines that basically turns around the omnipresent national dish: Plov. From pilaf, rice. The  unavoidable Eintopf for everybody, traditionally Sunday food.
Unfortunately in Uzbekistan you are about to taste the blandest beer ever: Sarbast.
Coffee, the real one, is slowly reaching the most touristic places, but is virtually impossible to get one off the beaten track, starting from Nukus in the north, where you can easier buy a camel than a decent espresso. Don’t even think of drinking anything else than vodka while in the Aral desert (absolutely bottled water only!) Your driver and guide definitely have both water and vodka in the trunk, so relax, enjoy the scenery and get ridiculously drunk…
